Rethink your things

Society has seen great progress the past few decades. But as our wealth grows, we slowly lose our meaningful connection with the world around us. Rethink Things shares uplifting stories that inspire us to reimagine our relationship with our material culture, valuing the world and everything in it as we should.

Our manifesto

Reimagining our material culture by rethinking our things

Imagine prehistoric human Jasper making a warm winter coat from a deer skin, wearing it twice and then tossing it because it’s now out of fashion. Laughable, right? Yet, this is exactly how we are behaving today.

But... humans are not meant to acquire and toss, acquire and toss. We’re meant to hunt and gather treasures and to treasure our treasures.

Rethink Things is your thought traveler towards re-evaluating our material culture. We search ways that are better for our mental health and the planet's. Because an exhausted planet cannot support any kind of culture, and certainly not Jasper's western culture of consumption.

Let's go from stuffing up on stuff we don’t need - our stuffy era - towards a flourishing future in which we value our only home planet and all things on it as we should. Let's rethink our things.

We are building an ever-expanding database of pioneers rethinking our material culture. Confessions of a semi-sustainable soul

It’s me, Rethink Things journalist Nina. I’m trying hard to live more sustainably, and I’m also failing hard every now and then. This journal is my compass in a messy, beautiful quest for a greener life. In sharing it with you, I hope my missteps, small wins, and lessons along the way will help light the path on your own journey.

About Rethink Things

Rethink Things is the storytelling platform sparking a revolution in our relationship with things. Our mission? A new material culture. One in which we value our possessions as we should. One that is better for our mental health than our current culture of overconsumption. And - perhaps most importantly - one that is better for our planet.

Society has seen great progress the past few decades. But as our wealth grew, we rapidly lost a meaningful connection with the world around us and with the things we own. Rethink Things is the embodiment of our quest - or treasure hunt if you will - towards a new material culture. By joining our online community - whether it’s by reading our blogs, following and engaging with us on social media, reading The Monthly Mindshift or actively contributing - you can join our quest.

If there’s one platform to follow to stay up-to-date on everything deconsumption, environment and reloved, it’s this one.
